Equipment
I now utilize two chairs that are the state of the art in neuro-activation equipment. They are updated versions of two of the most advanced pieces of technology from The Mind Spa days. They have to be experienced to be fully understood.

The "So Sound" Chair
As you recline back and are surrounded by a sound bath emanating from this perfectly contoured chair, the stresses of life melt away. This is because the chair is one molded piece of carbon fiber that has been designed to perfectly transmit the complex vibrations that the specially designed transducers (called "sound hearts") set in motion.
As the various frequencies move through the body, they initiate two key processes. 1) They gently massage every cell of the body down to, and including, our bones. This is carried out with music that has been chosen with specific outcomes in mind. Relaxation is always one outcome, but we can even establish system wide activation at the same time. 2) The amount of processing that is occurring because of the nerves reading all of the stimulation that is going on greatly activates the circuits of the brain ad the whole body.
The stimulation is different, or new, so the centers in the brain watching for threats are very active, but, at the same time the overall experience is very comfortable, so the brain learns to make a new association. This learning is that just because something is unknown, it isn't necessarily a threat. Also, the brain learns, "Maybe I can have a new response to things that happened in the past and are thus no longer a threat." In other words, we can update our files and release old, out-of-date emotions and self-perceptions that no longer need to be how we define ourselves.

The Symmatron Motion Chair
This chair also has sound coming through it, but not with the same intensity as the sound chair. Its main function, as the name implies, is to move. You recline and it revolves in a constant, even flow. The speed of revolutions and the direction are determined according to the specific objectives of the session. It is relaxing and stimulating, as mentioned in relation to the above chair, but it has its own, unique impact. It strongly stimulates the vestibular, or balance, system of the body. This can have a strong impact on many aspects of our lives because the vestibular system plays such a major role in most of our processing. As you revolve and feel the music coming through you, the brain is scrambling to make sense of what is going on by reading input from the entire balance system of the body. This includes the vestibular system of the inner ear, the muscle and joint systems and nerves in the skin. These are all reading our position in space and relating this to our sense of safety. The gentle stimulation of the chair's motion thus activates a large percentage of the brain. This creates exploring new pathways in the brain and activating dormant ones. It also forces the brain to operate as a whole to read all the incoming data, leading to more cohesive and balanced processing. This carries over into our lives in the form of greater confidence. In essence the brain is saying, "If I have greater access to all my disparate parts, I am more ready to handle whatever comes my way."

Other Clinical Equipment
Oximeter - This measures the oxygen level of the blood and our heart rate.
Occasionally our stress has the effect of us breathing more shallow and less completely.
This can lead to our blood supply not being fully oxygenated. If this is an issue, this can
be what is targeted and aided by the sessions on the equipment.
Heart Rate Variability Monitor - We typically think of out heart rate as a consistent number,
at least in a short span of time. Actually the heart rate is changing constantly changing every second.
This equipment allows us to monitor these constant, small changes. This tells us a lot about our level
of emotional activation.
Audio/Visual Stimulation Goggles - These are goggles with lights that blink at a certain frequency to help
the brain learn to naturally move into deeper states of relaxation, or activation. They help "tune" the brain so we
can learn to access the appropriate level of alertness/engagement for each specific task in our day.
They help the brain trust being more flexible.
